PLUNGING FOR FUN
AND FUNDRAISING!
Even the chill of winter can’t dampen Coney Island’s energetic atmosphere!
Every year, the Coney Island Polar Bear Club hosts its popular New Year’s Day Plunge — when daring souls don bathing suits and costumes to take a quick dip in the Atlantic Ocean for fun and charity.

Over the years, Ruby's Bar & Grill has pledged a portion of our Jan. 1 profits to benefit the community fundraiser.
Thousands of brave participants powered through frigid feel-like temperatures in the teens and ocean temperatures in the 30s for the 2026 plunge, which raised just over $90,000 (according to the Coney Island Polar Bear Club's donation tracker) for a number of local Coney Island nonprofits, including the Alliance for Coney Island, the New York Aquarium, the Coney Island History Project, Coney Island Library, and Coney Island USA, just to name a few.
Although Ruby’s is normally closed for the winter season, we DO open every New Year’s Day for the plunge. Whether you plan to participate in the Polar Bear Plunge or just miss the Coney Island Boardwalk, make sure to swing by Ruby's every Jan. 1. We’ll warm you up!
